What is Orthotics?
Orthotics departments are responsible for the prevision and use of external medical devices such as splints, braces, insoles and footwear.
An orthoses is a device that supports, immobilises, or treats muscles, joint or skeletal parts which are weak, deformed, ineffective or injured.
We provide support for the foot and ankle, as well as callipers and much more. Decades of experience enable us to deliver bespoke products that work, at a cost that fits within the customer's budget. We hire technicians with imagination and expertise, and explore new thinking and technology that allows us to make our products effective yet affordable. Peacocks staff always rise to a challenge, which means patients can expect "outstanding" rather than just "good enough".
Who provides Orthotic treatment?
Orthotists are allied health professionals (AHPs) qualified to assess, provide and treat patients using orthoses. Orthotists often work closely with surgeons, AHPs, physiotherapists and podiatrists within specialities. They can however also work independently to asses patients' needs.
Orthotists can work remotely to assess and treat patients, or can also work within MDTs. They often collaborate with Surgeons, Consultants, Physiotherapists, Podiatrists and other AHPs.
Orthotists provide biomechanics solutions to medical problems. Some orthoses are ready made, some require customising to individual patients. Some need to be custom made to impressions or scans.
Through the National Health Service, you may be able to get referred to an orthotic clinic by your GP, Consultant or Allied Health Professionals (AHPs).
